Google Ads for Law Firms

What Is Google Ads for Lawyers?

Google Ads for lawyers puts your firm at the top of Google when someone searches for your practice area, and you pay only when they click.

It suits matters that can’t wait, like criminal charges and bail, and works best with a separate campaign and landing page for each practice area.

How Legal Clients Choose From a Google Search

A person who needs a lawyer now moves fast, and your ad has four steps to win.

  1. 01

    They Search With Urgency

Someone charged on a Friday night searches “criminal lawyer near me” right then.

  2. 02

They Weigh Ads and the Map

Your ad competes with a map pack Google showed for 29 of our 30 lawyer searches.

  3. 03

    They Check Price and People

38% of People Also Ask questions on lawyer searches were about cost.

  4. 04

    They Call or Enquire

We track every call and form back to the campaign and keyword that drove it.

What Actually Moves Google Ads Results for Law Firms

  • One Campaign per Practice Area

Family, criminal and conveyancing clicks cost different amounts and bring different fees. Separate campaigns let us fund the work that pays.

  • Landing Pages With a Price

Only 28 of 104 firm sites showed a dollar price. A landing page with a fee range and a named lawyer gives the click a reason to call.

  • Negative Keywords From Day One

Searches for free advice, legal aid, law jobs and DIY guides burn budget. We block them before launch and review search terms every week.

  • Tracking to Files Opened

We track calls and forms by campaign and feed files opened back into Google Ads, so bidding learns from matters you sign.

  • Hours That Match the Matter

Criminal and bail clients can search at any hour. We run those campaigns around the clock only when someone can answer the phone.

  • Cheaper Cities and Matters

Hobart and Darwin were the cheapest cities for legal clicks in our study, and immigration law was among the cheapest matters. We put budget where a file costs least.

Legal Advertising Rules, Built Into Every Ad

Google approves an ad long before a regulator reads it. We check every ad and landing page against the conduct rules and state law first.

01

Specialist Claims

Rule 36 bars using “accredited specialist” without accreditation and conveying any false impression of specialist expertise. Ad copy only claims what your lawyers hold.

02

Queensland Personal Injury

Queensland’s Personal Injuries Proceedings Act limits injury advertising to your name, contact details and practice area, published by methods the Act lists. We get advice before any injury campaign runs there.

03

No Win No Fee by Matter

The Queensland Law Society says not to advertise “no win no fee” for criminal law and some family law matters, because those agreements are prohibited. We keep it out of those ads.

Search Campaigns vs Performance Max for Law Firms

Search Campaigns

Performance Max

For law firms, ad wording is a compliance question. We start on Search campaigns and only test Performance Max once tracking shows which matters turn into files.

Google Ads for Lawyers Questions, Answered

How much should a law firm spend on Google Ads?

We recommend at least $2,000 to $3,000 a month in ad spend per practice area. Personal injury and criminal law usually need more, because the median click in our study was $53.23 for personal injury and $19.95 for criminal law.

Can personal injury lawyers run Google Ads?

In NSW, the Law Society notes the old personal injury advertising ban wasn’t carried into the Uniform Law, so rule 36 and the Australian Consumer Law set the limits. Queensland is different. Its Act limits injury advertising to name, contact details and practice area, published by methods it lists, so get advice before running any injury ads there.

Can our ads say our lawyers are specialists?

Only if the lawyer holds accreditation. Rule 36 of the Australian Solicitors’ Conduct Rules bars using “accredited specialist” without it, and conveying any false impression of specialist expertise.

Should our ads go to our homepage?

No. Each practice area needs its own landing page with the matter, a fee range, the lawyer who handles it and one clear next step. A homepage has to speak to everyone, so it gives a worried searcher less reason to call.

How do you measure Google Ads for a law firm?

By cost per file opened, for each practice area. We track calls and forms to the campaign, connect your intake data and report which matters signed, alongside cost per enquiry.

How fast do Google Ads bring in enquiries?

Ads usually bring enquiries within one to two weeks of launch. The first months also teach us which searches and pages sign matters, and results improve as we cut the waste.

How much do you charge to manage Google Ads?

Our work starts from $2,000 a month. Month to month, with no lock-in contract.
