Facebook Ads for Healthcare

What Are Facebook Ads for Healthcare?

Facebook ads show your practice to people living near your clinic, before they search for a dentist, GP or physio.

They suit new-patient campaigns and building familiarity with your team. Health advertisers face extra limits on wording, audiences and the data a website can send to Meta.

How Facebook Ads Reach Patients

Facebook reaches people before they search, so the ad has to earn attention and trust on its own.

  1. 01

    Define the Area

Target the suburbs within easy reach of each clinic, by location and age.

  2. 02

    Show the Practice

Your team, rooms and services, in video and images that stay inside Ahpra and Meta rules.

  3. 03

    Offer a Next Step

A new-patient appointment or a free consult, with the terms stated in the ad.

  4. 04

    Book Without Friction

A short lead form or booking page, tracked without sending health details to Meta.

What Actually Moves Patient Bookings from Facebook Ads

  • Describe the Service

Meta bans ads that assert or imply a health condition, like “Do you have diabetes?”. We describe the service instead, as in “Diabetes education available”.

  • A Clean Pixel Setup

Meta’s terms bar sensitive data, and health sites can be put in a restricted category. We send booking events without health details.

  • Audiences Built on Suburbs

We build audiences around suburbs, age and your own non-sensitive data, never health conditions, keeping you inside Meta’s rules and the OAIC’s guidance.

  • Cosmetic Campaigns Kept Apart

Cosmetic procedure ads must target 18 and over on Meta, and Ahpra bans cosmetic advertising aimed at under 18s. We run them apart from general care.

  • Lead Forms That Ask Less

Forms ask for a name, phone number and preferred time, and nothing about symptoms or conditions, so no health information passes through Meta.

  • Comments Moderated

A patient praising their treatment under your ad is a testimonial on a page you control. We moderate comments so your ads stay inside section 133.

Privacy and Tracking Rules for Health Advertisers

In June 2026 the Privacy Commissioner found two health providers breached privacy through third-party tracking pixels. If your website runs the Meta pixel, the same rules apply to you.

01

Express Consent First

The OAIC says sensitive information, which includes health information, should only be collected through a tracking pixel with express consent.

02

Pages That Reveal Nothing

On a health website, a visit to a condition page can reveal sensitive information by itself. We map which pages fire which events and switch off the risky ones.

03

A Privacy Policy That Matches

The OAIC holds the business running the pixel responsible for it. We document what your tracking does and flag what your privacy policy needs to cover.

Facebook Ads vs Google Ads for Practices

Google Ads

Many practices run both. Google catches patients searching now, and Facebook means they already know your name when they do.

Facebook Ads for Healthcare Questions, Answered

Do Facebook ads work for medical and dental practices?

They work well for reaching locals before they need you and for new-patient campaigns. For urgent needs, Google Ads reaches people who are already searching, so many practices run both.

Can we use patient testimonials in Facebook ads?

No. Section 133 bans testimonials about clinical aspects, like symptoms, treatment or outcomes. Comments about service or communication style are fine. On your own ads and page you’re responsible for clinical testimonials, which may mean hiding comments or turning reviews off.

It can be, if it’s set up carefully. The OAIC says health information should only reach a platform like Meta through a pixel with express consent, and the business running the pixel is responsible. We audit what yours sends and fix it.

Can we target people with a specific condition?

No. Meta bans ads that assert or imply a personal health condition, and audiences built on health data raise privacy problems. We target by suburb and age and let the ad describe the service.

Can we run Facebook ads for cosmetic treatments?

Yes, with extra rules. Meta requires cosmetic procedure ads to target people 18 and over, and Ahpra bans cosmetic advertising aimed at under 18s and influencer testimonials. Ads also can’t name or hint at prescription-only medicines.

How much should we spend on Facebook ads?

We usually test at $50 to $100 a day. Most practices start with $2,000 to $5,000 a month in ad spend, split by clinic and service, then move budget to what books.
