Best SEO Agency Sydney: 12 Ranked on Live 2026 Data

Most “best SEO agency Sydney” lists are written once and left alone. The agencies on them paid to be there, or the writer copied a directory page from two years ago. You cannot tell which.

So we did something simpler. On 12 September 2026 we ran a live Google search for “best seo agency sydney” and “seo companies sydney” from a Sydney location, and we asked ChatGPT the question a real buyer asks: “best SEO agency in Sydney for a small business”. Then we visited every agency that came back and read what they say about themselves.

The list below is ranked on how many of those three checks each agency showed up in. Uprise Digital is near the bottom, and we are honest about why. There is also a section on what Sydney search actually costs, using real click prices and link data, because that is the part most of these lists skip.

How we built this list

Everything here comes from three checks run on 12 September 2026.

  • Live Google search, Sydney location. The top 20 results for “best seo agency sydney” and “seo companies sydney”, set to Sydney, New South Wales. We counted organic listings, the map pack and the AI Overview.
  • ChatGPT test. We asked “best SEO agency in Sydney for a small business” with web search on, and recorded every agency it named and shortlisted.
  • Homepage check. We opened each agency’s own site to confirm a Sydney address and the services they list. Two sites blocked our request, so those agencies were left off.

The ranking is based on search and AI visibility on that one day, nothing else. Read it the right way. It measures how good each agency is at marketing itself, not how good they are for your business. A very good agency can be invisible on these terms because it grows by referral. Use the list as a shortlist to call, not as a scoreboard.

We have not taken payment from anyone on this page, and we have not made any claim about an agency that the agency does not publish itself.

The 12, one by one

1. StudioHawk

StudioHawk was the strongest performer in our check. It held an organic top three spot for both search terms, it was named in Google’s AI Overview, and it was running ads on the term as well. Its Sydney page lists an office at Suite 44, 2 Locomotive Street, South Eveleigh, with a second base in Prahran, Melbourne, and it says it has a team of 120 or more specialists.

The site describes StudioHawk as “a specialised agency dedicated to search engine optimisation” and lists technical, ecommerce, local, enterprise and AI SEO, plus content and digital PR. Named clients include Officeworks, Weber, Kogan and NBN. This is a large agency set up for larger jobs.

2. Prosperity Media

Prosperity Media ranked organically for both terms and appeared in the AI Overview. Its office is Level 3, 58 to 62 Kippax Street, Surry Hills. The site is direct about scope: “We don’t offer social media however we can recommend partners who specialise in social media. We focus on SEO and content only.”

It also publishes who it works with: “We mainly work with companies who have over 1 million revenue, we also work with funded startups.” The page lists Best Large SEO Agency at the 2025 APAC Search Awards. Read that revenue line before you call.

3. AdVisible

AdVisible was the only agency to hit all three checks. It ranked organically, it was named in the AI Overview, and ChatGPT listed it in the written shortlist. The office is Suite 302, Level 3, 120 Sussex Street in the CBD.

It is full service rather than SEO only. The page lists SEO, Google Ads, social advertising, web design and creative work. It states 689 five star reviews and lists work with City of Sydney, Blacktown City Council, Anytime Fitness and several hotel groups.

4. Click Click Media

Click Click Media ranked organically for both terms and its page was cited in Google’s AI Overview for the section on what to look for in an SEO partner. The office is Unit 307, 29 to 31 Solent Circuit, Norwest.

It is one of the very few Sydney agencies that publishes prices. It quotes $1,500 to $2,500 per month for small and medium businesses, and $3,500 to $5,000 for larger ecommerce or multi location work. It also publishes 92% client retention, eighteen years in operation, and five named clients. Published numbers are easy to check, which is worth something on its own. See the Click Click Media SEO page.

5. Top SEO Sydney

Top SEO Sydney appeared in the organic results, in the map pack for both searches, in the paid ads, and in ChatGPT’s list of Sydney businesses. The address is 229 Miller Street, North Sydney.

The site lists SEO, PPC, social, email and web design, and says the team has “more than 20 years of experience optimising websites”. It puts the average Sydney SEO rate at “$100 to $250 per hour”, and states “No Misleading Guarantees” and “No Lock-in Contracts”.

6. Safari Digital

Safari Digital held the top spot in the Google map pack and was ChatGPT’s second pick in its written answer. The office is Level 2, 11 York Street in the CBD.

It is an SEO only shop and says so plainly: “At Safari Digital, we specialise in SEO. We don’t offer any other digital marketing services, just SEO.” The page lists local, small business, ecommerce, B2B and SaaS SEO, plus industry pages for accountants, dentists, lawyers and physios. It puts Australian SEO cost at “around $1,500 to $10,000+ per month” on the Safari Digital site.

7. SEO North Sydney

ChatGPT picked SEO North Sydney first in its written answer, and it held a map pack spot for “seo companies sydney”. The office is Level 14, 275 Alfred Street, North Sydney.

It is a small team led by Brian M Logan, who the site says has over 20 years of experience. Services listed are SEO, web design, Google Ads, Facebook ads, content, video and SEO training. It describes its focus as the SME and single owner home operator space. If you want to talk to the same person every month, this is the shape of agency that usually suits.

8. Earned Media

Earned Media ranked seventh organically for “seo companies sydney”. The office is Unit 3.05, 5 Celebration Drive, Bella Vista.

The page describes “Sydney-based experts who work across onsite and offsite SEO” with “more than 12 years at the forefront of search engine optimisation”. Services listed are SEO, content, link building, digital PR, web design and AI SEO. It publishes a price range of about $1,000 per month for small businesses up to $10,000 or more for enterprise work.

9. Supple Digital

Supple Digital did not show up in our organic top 20 on the day, but Google’s AI Overview named it and linked to its Sydney page. The office is Level 45, 680 George Street, Haymarket.

It is full service: SEO, PPC, content, web design, development and social. It publishes a range of “$70 to $200+ per hour for an SEO consultant or $1250 to $3500+ per month”. It also warns on its own page that “things to be wary of include SEO companies that offer guarantees or baseless promises”. See the Supple Digital Sydney page.

10. Online Marketing Gurus

Online Marketing Gurus did not hold an organic spot for either term on the day, but it was bidding on both and ChatGPT named it as the pick for scale. Head office is 127 Alexander Street, Crows Nest, with further offices in Melbourne, Brisbane, Singapore, the US and the UAE.

The page states 100 or more SEO specialists, a 4.9 rating from 630 or more reviews, and lists SEO, PPC, paid social, web design and generative engine optimisation for AI search. Named clients include Calvin Klein, Nespresso and LG.

11. First Page

First Page was ChatGPT’s third pick but did not appear in our Google top 20 for either term. The Sydney office is Three International Towers, Level 17, Barangaroo.

The page says the SEO team is Sydney based and “always accessible”, and lists SEO, Google Ads, social advertising, landing page design, conversion rate optimisation and reputation management. It holds Google Premier Partner status and lists offices in every mainland capital plus New Zealand, Singapore, Hong Kong and Austria.

12. Uprise Digital (yes, this is us)

We did not rank in the Sydney top 20 for either term on 12 September 2026, and ChatGPT did not name us. We could have left ourselves off, or written ourselves into first place. Neither would have been honest.

Uprise Digital is based in Melbourne and works Australia wide. We do SEO, AI search optimisation, Google Ads and web design, and our Sydney SEO work is mostly trades, construction, legal, accounting and health businesses across the Sydney metro area. Our newer focus is answer engine optimisation in Sydney, which is the work of getting a business named inside ChatGPT and Google AI answers rather than only in the blue links. We do not guarantee rankings, because nobody can.

How competitive is Sydney search, really?

Sydney is the most expensive search market in the country, and the gap is bigger than people expect. Here is what our keyword data pull on 12 September 2026 shows for the agency terms themselves.

Search term Monthly searches (Australia) Typical top of page click cost
sydney seo agency 1,300 $117.46
best seo agency sydney 720 $67.99
seo agency sydney 1,300 $65.79
seo consultant sydney 1,000 $64.89
seo sydney 2,900 $55.35
seo agency melbourne 1,900 $33.74
seo agency brisbane 1,900 $25.16

A click on “sydney seo agency” costs about three and a half times a click on the same term in Brisbane, and about double Melbourne. That is the market you are buying into.

It is not just agency terms. Here is what Sydney service searches cost per click, and how hard the top results are to displace.

Sydney search term Monthly searches Click cost Average referring domains of ranking pages
family lawyer sydney 3,600 $32.41 56
plumber sydney 6,600 $26.45 60
conveyancer sydney 1,600 $22.63 43
air conditioning sydney 1,600 $19.89 25
removalists sydney 12,100 $19.75 75
electrician sydney 2,400 $17.00 55
pest control sydney 8,100 $14.99 54
accountant sydney 1,900 $10.23 30

Two useful things fall out of that table. First, the difficulty is not even. “accountant sydney” and “air conditioning sydney” have ranking pages with around 25 to 30 referring domains, which a patient business can build in a year. “removalists sydney” and “sydney dentist” sit near 75, which is a multi year job. Ask any agency which bucket your keywords sit in before you agree to a timeline.

Second, the ad price tells you what a lead is worth. If a plumber click costs $26.45, then organic rankings for that term are worth roughly the same per click, every month, without paying for it again. That is the whole argument for SEO in Sydney, and it is a stronger argument here than anywhere else in the country.

The seasonality nobody mentions

Across almost every Sydney term we pulled, the twelve month high sits in September 2025, and the strongest month of 2026 so far is March. “best seo agency sydney” ran at 880 searches in both February and March 2026, then dropped to 210 by June. “family lawyer sydney” went from 5,400 in March to 2,400 in June. “pest control sydney” peaked at 14,800 in March.

Practically, that means the work you want ranking in March needs to be published in December or January. Agencies get busy in February because everyone realises at the same time. If you are reading this in September, you are early, which is the right place to be.

What that means for your budget and timeline

The Sydney agencies that publish prices land in a fairly tight band. Click Click Media publishes $1,500 to $2,500 per month for small and medium businesses. Supple publishes $1,250 to $3,500 or more per month. Earned Media publishes from about $1,000 per month for small business. Safari Digital puts the Australian range at $1,500 to $10,000 or more. Hourly rates quoted on these sites run from $70 to $250.

So a realistic Sydney small business budget is $1,500 to $3,000 per month, and a competitive CBD or multi location campaign is $3,500 and up. Under about $800 a month buys a few hours of someone’s time, which is fine for a suburb business and not enough for a citywide term.

On timeline, be careful with anyone who gives you a date. Three to six months to see movement on low competition suburb terms is normal. Nine to eighteen months for a head term like “plumber sydney” is normal, because you are trying to earn the 60 referring domains the current top pages already have.

Google and ChatGPT do not agree, and that is the story

Here is the finding we did not expect. Of the eleven agencies we listed apart from ourselves, only four appeared in both Google’s top 20 and ChatGPT’s answer on the same day. Two agencies ChatGPT recommended were nowhere in the Google top 20 for either term. Five agencies that rank well in Google were not named by ChatGPT at all.

The two systems are pulling from different places. Google’s page was driven by the agencies’ own pages and their Google Business Profiles. ChatGPT leaned on Google Business Profile data plus three third party sources: a Clutch directory page, a Semrush agency listing, and one independent blog post comparing Sydney agencies.

Ranking on Google no longer means you are in the answer. The agencies ChatGPT named tended to have complete business profiles with a real street address, plenty of reviews, and a presence on the third party directories AI tools read. We cover the method in our guide to the best AEO agencies in Sydney.

What to ask before you sign

Google publishes its own advice on hiring an SEO, and it is short and blunt. It says “No one can guarantee a #1 ranking on Google” and tells you to “beware of SEOs that claim to guarantee rankings, allege a ‘special relationship’ with Google, or advertise a ‘priority submit’ to Google”. You can read the whole thing on Google Search Central.

The questions Google suggests are the right ones to take into a sales call: can you show examples of your work, do you follow the Google Search Essentials, what results do you expect and in what timeframe, what is your experience in my industry, and will you show me every change you make to my site. Add four of our own that matter in Sydney:

  1. Which exact terms, and what do they cost per click? If an agency cannot tell you the click price of your main keyword, they have not looked it up.
  2. How many referring domains do the current top pages have? This is the honest answer to “how long will it take”.
  3. Who owns the website and the Google Business Profile? Get this in writing before any work starts.
  4. What happens if I leave after six months? Ask what you keep.

One more thing. Under Australian Consumer Law, claims in advertising must be “accurate, truthful and based on reasonable grounds”, and the ACCC notes that “it makes no difference whether a business intends to mislead or not”. That applies to the agency selling to you, and it applies to the ads that agency will write for you. The ACCC guidance on false or misleading claims is short and worth ten minutes.

FAQ

How much does SEO cost in Sydney in 2026?

Based on the prices Sydney agencies publish on their own sites, small business work sits at roughly $1,000 to $2,500 per month, and competitive citywide or multi location work at $3,500 and up. Hourly rates quoted publicly run from $70 to $250. These are the agencies’ own published numbers, not an estimate.

Sydney sits at the top of the range because clicks cost more here. A “sydney seo agency” click runs at about $117 at the top of the page, against about $25 in Brisbane, and that pattern repeats across most service categories.

Is the best SEO agency in Sydney the one that ranks first for “seo sydney”?

Not necessarily. Ranking for that term proves an agency can rank for a hard term in a crowded market, which is real evidence. It does not prove they are right for a suburb dental practice or a B2B manufacturer.

It is also worth knowing that four of the top spots on that search on the day we checked were paid ads. Being at the top is sometimes a budget decision rather than an SEO one.

Should I pick an SEO only agency or a full service one?

Depends on what else you are running. Two agencies on this list say publicly that they do SEO and nothing else, which means deep focus and a referral for anything outside it. Others run SEO, Google Ads, social and web design under one roof.

If your site is old or slow, a full service team usually moves faster because the developer and the SEO sit together. If your site is already sound, a specialist is usually the better buy. If Google Ads is the bigger part of your spend, our list of Google Ads agencies in Sydney is a better starting point.

How long before SEO works in Sydney?

For a suburb level term with light competition, three to six months is a fair expectation. For a citywide head term, plan on nine to eighteen months, because the pages currently ranking have built links over years. Our data shows pages ranking for “removalists sydney” average around 75 referring domains and “plumber sydney” around 60.

Any agency that gives you a firm date for a firm position is guessing. Google itself says no one can guarantee a number one ranking.

Why did ChatGPT recommend agencies that do not rank on Google?

Because it reads different things. In our test, ChatGPT used Google Business Profile listings plus a Clutch directory page, a Semrush agency listing and one independent comparison article. None of that is the same as ranking your own website.

The lesson for any Sydney business is that your Google Business Profile, your review count and your presence in credible directories now feed a second discovery system running alongside Google. That is a different job, and most businesses have not started it.

Do I need a Sydney agency, or can I use one from another city?

Location matters less than it used to. StudioHawk runs Sydney work from offices in both Sydney and Melbourne, and First Page lists nine Australian offices. What matters is whether the team understands Sydney suburb search, because “plumber parramatta” and “plumber bondi” behave like separate markets.

Ask to see suburb level work, not just a national case study. To compare beyond SEO, our list of digital marketing agencies in Sydney covers the broader field, and our Sydney web design page covers the build side.

If you want a second opinion

Call two or three agencies from the table above. Ask each one the questions in this post, and compare the answers rather than the pitch decks. Most will give you something useful for free.
